Bodin Chompoosri is a Thai bassist, composer, and educator currently pursuing a Doctorate in Jazz Studies at the University of Northern Colorado. Having earned his Master’s degree from the University of North Texas, he has established himself as a versatile performer with a deep passion for Black American Music and a strong foundation in both double and electric bass. Bodin’s musical journey is marked by rapid growth and a commitment to his craft. Immersing himself in both the English language and the U.S. jazz scene just four years ago, he quickly began making his mark on a national level. In 2025, he was recognized as a semi-finalist in the prestigious International Society of Bassists (ISB) Jazz Bass Competition, a significant milestone for a Thai musician in the international jazz community. That same year, he also performed at the Jazz Education Network (JEN) Conference.
As a composer, Bodin draws from a wide array of historical and global influences. His recent writing blends traditional jazz frameworks with diverse rhythmic structures, ranging from ballads inspired by the lineage of Charles Mingus and Thelonious Monk to high-energy, episodic forms utilizing Cumbia and swing rhythms. He prides himself on his musical adaptability, bringing a grounded, authentic jazz feel to various genres and ensembles. Continuing his forward momentum, Bodin was recently selected to attend the highly competitive 2026 JAS Academy Big Band Session in Aspen, directed by Christian McBride. Through his doctoral research and active performance schedule, Bodin aims to bridge cultural gaps in the music world, working to become a leading educator who inspires the next generation of global jazz musicians.
